Sustainability made easy

Lightweight glass has a lot going for it when it comes to the environment. Lightweight glass cuts the consumption of power and materials and so saves on resources and raw materials.

New production methods have made it possible to manufacture especially thin-walled lightweight glass containers. Instead of the traditional blow-and-blow process, we use the narrow-neck-press-and-blow process. The lightweight glass technology guarantees that glass containers have a significant reduction in weight but are just as strong and stable as their heavier predecessors. The ecological benefits of traditionally produced glass are also retained: lightweight glass is 100% recyclable and is completely neutral in relation to the contents.

New production technology 

When making lightweight glass packaging, we use the finite element method at an early stage of the design process. On their computer screens, our designers identify those parts of a container that are subject to particular stresses. Often only minor adjustments to the geometry of the container are required to eliminate those stresses. Lightweight glass can be easily filled and stored with no loss of quality.

Save with lightweight glass 

Using lightweight glass saves on raw materials, weight and transport costs. The reduced weight makes transportation to the customer and to the consumer easier. The costs of transport and storage are also reduced. The bottlers, retailers, consumers and the environment all benefit from this new lightness.

Environmental progress

Reducing the weight means saving on resources. The much lower consumption of materials and the high proportion of recycled materials used in making new lightweight bottles mean that CO2 emissions are greatly reduced. And of course, the well-known ecological credentials of glass bottles, the fact that they are 100% recyclable and entirely neutral in relation to their contents, all still equally apply to lightweight bottles.
