10th apprentice competition of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce Industrial Section: Vanessa Hell, Vetropack apprentice, wins apprentice competition

Pöchlarn, Austria, 28 June 2018 – Vanessa Hell, an apprentice at the Vetropack plant in Pöchlarn, took 1st prize along with her team "The VG³-Team" in the "Industry 4.0" special category of the Industrial Section. The apprentice competition of the In-dustrial Section is run every year in St. Pölten by the Institute for Economic Promotion (WIFI) of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKNÖ).

The winning team of four in the "Industry 4.0" category, of which Vanessa Hell was a member, was a mixed team made up of members from different companies. They faced the challenging task of creating the structure and visualisation of a machine system. For this, they had to use mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and IT components. They had to be just as adept at traditional drilling or turning as in programming skills, creating CAD drawings and using modern sensors and IT technology.

The Regional Minister for Economic Affairs Petra Bohuslav, Chair of the WKNÖ Sonja Zwazl and Secretary of the Industrial Section at the WKNÖ Thomas Salzer jointly presented the award. "The digital revolution brings with it new challenges for entrepreneurs, as well as for their employees. Well-trained specialists will become increasingly important if we are to successfully meet future challenges", said Bohuslav. Zwazl added: "Our apprentices need sound knowledge, creative solutions, team spirit and stamina, and need to be able to apply them as one."

Lateral thinking, a multidisciplinary approach and working in an integrated manner within the production process are part of everyday training at Vetropack. We train up our apprentices so that they are ready to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0. As specialists of the future they need to be able to hold their own in a networked world full of novel tasks. With this in mind, Vetropack is also offering a new apprenticeship in glass technology.
